The American manufacturer of 3D printers 3D Systems has announced the latest addition to its material portfolio, VisiJet Wax Jewel Red, to enable more complex designs for jewelry production.
In combination with the company’s pure wax 3D printing technology, the material facilitates new design styles for jewelry casting while providing efficiency and waste reduction benefits.

3D Systems Wax 3D printing technology
3D wax printing can be incorporated into standard lost wax casting processes for jewelry production, to provide a range of cost, efficiency and design benefits.
According to 3D Systems, 3D wax printing has become the recognized standard for producing models for jewelry casting. However, technology still struggles to achieve certain styles and designs that require fine meshes and intricate details.
3D Systems’ 3D wax printing technology is developed specifically for jewelry applications and comes with a choice of 100% wax and castable plastics for high resolution models and molding processes, and materials for the production of precision models for molding or prototyping rubber or silicone. .
The company’s wax printing technology and materials, combined with its 3D printing software, can be seamlessly integrated into standard lost wax casting processes to achieve greater design freedom, same day pattern printing molding and help eliminate tooling time and costs.
VisiJet Red Jewel Wax
VisiJet Wax Jewel Red is the latest addition to 3D Systems’ jewelry material portfolio and has been designed to expand the potential applications of the company’s jewelry-specific 3D printing technology.
The company’s technology includes its ProJet MJP 2500W 3D printer, 3D Sprint software and 3D Connect management software, as well as its VisiJet wax materials. VisiJet waxes melt like standard molding waxes, with zero ash content for flawless moldings. They are durable for handling and projecting fine details, and the high contrast colors make it easy for users to view fine details.
VisiJet Wax Jewel Red is the latest material added to the line, and is specially designed to meet the needs of casting houses producing jewelry designs that include fusion and crimp designs.
The improved flexibility of the material reduces breakage due to handling throughout the lost wax casting process, which is especially beneficial for designs that include fine features like a lightweight watermark and thin wire mesh. According to 3D Systems, foundries that integrate VisiJet Wax Jewel Red into their production workflows will be able to produce more durable and flexible models, resulting in reduced waste, time and costs.
The new material also enables same-day printing and casting of models while eliminating tooling time and costs, while providing increased design freedom for casting houses and jewelers.
VisiJet Wax Jewel Red is expected to be available on September 20, 2021.
3D systems in the jewelry industry
In addition to its wax 3D printing technology, 3D Systems is also targeting the jewelry market with another of its offerings, its Figure 4 3D printing platform. The 3D printing package is optimized for the printed jewelry market. in 3D and contains the company’s hardware, software and materials designed to provide very precise, fine detail and smooth surface finishes.
Last year, 3D Systems announced that it would be expanding the portfolio of compatible materials for its Figure 4 3D printer, and has since released a suite of new polymers for the machine. In May, the company added four new variants of Figure 4 resin to its material portfolio to improve the flame retardancy, strength, and biocompatibility of 3D printed industrial and jewelry parts.
