Maguire heads for the Big Apple
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Canadian shoe brand Maguire opened its very first international store in New York. Located on Elizabeth Street in the Nolita neighborhood and a short walk from SoHo, the 1,000-square-foot boutique is nestled between a handful of trendy restaurants and cafes, and neighbors a variety of other direct-to-consumer brands, such as Everlane, Sézanne and Mejuri.
Even after the success of their physical stores in Montreal and Toronto, Myriam and Romy Maguire, sisters and founders of the ethically produced brand, were surprised to be able to open so quickly in New York. “It has always been a dream to one day open a store in this city,” they said. FASHION. “We never imagined that we could do it on our own, being self-employed and still a relatively small business with no big capital to back us up! The pandemic caused a significant drop in commercial rents in New York and when we saw this we decided to jump at the opportunity even though there were many uncertainties at the time.

Opening a store in New York isn’t the only achievement the Maguire sisters have to celebrate this summer. They recently launched their new collection of fashion-forward shoes, colorful handbags and, for the very first time, sunglasses. The limited edition shades come in five different color variations and one style, the ‘Bai’. Named after a friend of Myriam’s who introduced her to the idea of creating sunglasses out of recycled plastic, these sunglasses are the trendiest way to envision a better future.
