The call for artists for the 2022 Sooke Fine Arts Show is open until May 24, and artists from Vancouver Island and the coastal islands of British Columbia are encouraged to submit their work for this year’s exhibition. .
This year will mark the highly anticipated return of the Sooke Fine Arts Show as a live event at the SEAPARC Arena in Sooke. The arena will once again be skillfully transformed into a high-end art gallery welcoming seasoned art lovers as well as those new and curious to the art world.
From July 21 to August 1, the gallery will present original works of art against the backdrop of live music, art demonstrations, lectures and guided tours. There are hands-on activities for young people and events for seniors. A gallery of the artwork featured during the live show will be available for viewing online.
“The Call for Artists is highly anticipated by coastal artists, especially this year – our first live show since 2019,” said Terrie Moore, Executive Director of the Sooke Fine Arts Society. “Artists and patrons tell us they are eager to experience and appreciate the artworks in person again, and we are planning a major exhibition for our artists this year: more than 9,000 visitors attended our last live show and over 10,000 viewed our recent shows online.”
Award-winning Victorian artist Leonard Butt has submitted his pieces to SFAS for many years. He agrees that this year’s show will be great for artists, who might have a backlog of creative content, especially with so many social changes.
“I’m excited to have the show live this year because I’m meeting other artists and getting feedback on my work directly from people at the show. The SFAS always gives a little boost to my creativity!
A distinguished jury will judge more than 350 original works of art created from every imaginable material, in traditional and contemporary styles. The show will also award more than $12,000 in several categories including Artistic Excellence, Social Commentary, Designer’s Choice and People’s Choice.
Additionally, artists can bring unique gift items to sell in the show’s popular gallery gift shop and are encouraged to offer talks, demonstrations or gallery tours during the show.
Submission to the Sooke Fine Arts Show is open to anyone on BC’s coastal islands creating original paintings, sculpture, photography, fiber art, ceramics or handmade jewelry. Information is available on the company’s website at sookefinearts.com.
Artists are encouraged to submit their work online until midnight Thursday, May 24 at sookefinearts.com.
